What is a Hebri Board?
A Hebri Board is a handmade wooden belly board.
Is a belly board the same as a boogie board?
Kind of. Boogie boards are usually made of polystyrene. They are sometimes cheaper than a belly board, but they have a shorter life and tend to end up in a landfill.
Can anyone belly board?
Yes! The technique is very similar to a boogie board. You catch the waves in the same way, but instead of putting your whole weight onto the board, you hold the sides and rest chest upwards on the board...super hero style! Our board design will have you flying through the water, rather than floating along on top of it.
Why Hebri?
We started Hebri Boards when we had the chance to live and work in the Scottish Hebridies, on the Isle of Tiree. Tiree is a draw for a variety of watersports and it is there that we decided to create a sustainable wooden belly board, to make the most of those waves.
Can I only buy online?
For now yes. If you know any cool stores that you think should stock our boards, tell them to give us a shout!
What’s the hole for?
Although we love to fly along on the boards, in the past they have been purchased as art pieces - one of our original boards is sitting on a wall alongside a gallery of vintage wooden boards and it looks pretty damn fine too. Also, it’s a handy hook for storage in between use.
Can I attach a leash?
We wanted to keep the boards as eco friendly as possible and keep it very simple, that said some of our customers have added a leash to their board. Personally we like the freedom of just being in the waves, with just the board and after 5 years, we have never lost one.
